Another little side trip that we took while we were in our Big Bend and West Texas adventures was to Davis Mountains State Park.
Davis Mountain State Park is just outside Fort Davis. The state park offers hiking, biking, horseback riding (you must bring your own horse), mountaintop drives, camping, and stargazing.

We stuck to the driving and hiking.
There is a historic Indian Lodge on site as well that you could stay at if you weren't equipped to camp. |

This park would be a perfect camping base for exploring West Texas and stargazing at night.
